I love being a mom! Motherhood is the source of my greatest joys and my biggest fears. It is my most important role, one that I feel I am auditioning for on a frequent basis as my children are growing at such a rapid pace.
The amazing journey of motherhood empties my cup and then joyously overflows it. I remember my son’s preschool teacher stating that I have never been a parent to a 4 year old boy until that moment and she had never been a parent to a 20 year old boy until then. Despite my having an older daughter, each child is so beautifully unique that some parenting strategies for one may be tossed out the window for the next.
There’s no handbook for being a mom, but I’ve been lucky enough to have a pretty special role model to show me the way. My mom has always lifted me up by telling me that I can do anything that I set my mind to and she has given me a safe place to fail, if needed. My mom taught me that children need to be able to run free and try things on their own, but if they look back, they will see you cheering them on, but being there for them if they need you. This is a lesson I still try to remember as my children grow older.
As a designer, I am looking constantly to the world for inspiration as to why a collection should come about. Motherhood and family are often the drivers for me to research and study, listen and learn, being open and sensitive about what I have gleaned and applying it in a meaningful way to my designs.
I am honored to be helping families celebrate motherhood through my designs.
