DEMON COPPERHEAD, by Barbara Kingsolver

Haverhill is currently engrossed in the latest book by Pulitzer-Prize-winning novelist Barbara Kingsolver. This coming-of-age story follows a young boy as he fights for survival – and love – in the rural American South. Inspired by the classic Dickens novel David Copperfield, this is a big, juicy read that ties together timeless themes of growing up with insight into the particular challenges that face young people today. Nearly 600 pages long, and you still won't want it to end.

GEORGE VI AND ELIZABETH: THE MARRIAGE THAT SAVED THE MONARCHY, by Sally Bedell Smith

This well researched book follows the British king and his consort from their earliest acquaintance to his death in 1952. Theirs was a true love match, and together they kept the monarchy intact after the unexpected abdication of the king's brother Edward VIII. The couple's leadership and support during World War II is something that a generation of Britons will not soon forget.

THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU, by Jonathan Tropper

An incredibly funny, emotionally honest novel, This Is Where I Leave You is the story of Judd Foxman and his family, who are sitting shiva at home for seven days and nights. The week quickly gets out of hand when arguments flare up and secrets are uncovered. Equal parts hilarious and heartbreaking, this book will stay with you long after you've finished it.

CAMERA GIRL: THE COMING OF AGE OF JACKIE BOUVIER KENNEDY, by Carl Sferrazza Anthony

This fascinating new biography of Camelot's First Lady follows her from earliest childhood to her engagement to Senator Jack Kennedy in 1953.
