THE MAGNIFICENT LIVES OF MARJORIE POST: A NOVEL by Allison Pataki
Marjorie Merriwether Post was an heiress who turned her father's business into an international conglomerate (General Foods). Known for her business savvy as well as her philanthropy, she was a high-society hostess who lived a life of incredible wealth and adventure. As a female entrepreneur, I find her story especially thrilling -- and the glamour adds a lot of fun escapism.

FINDING ME by Viola Davis
I love a success story, especially one that starts from the Ocean State. In this moving memoir, acclaimed actor and Rhode Island native Viola Davis recounts her journey from a poverty-stricken childhood to success on both stage and screen. (Recently she became only the 18th person ever to win EGOT: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards!)

WOMEN, FOOD, & HORMONES by Sara Gottfried MD
As I age, I'm increasingly interested in my wellness. In this book, Dr. Sara Gottfried explains that most diet plans don't work for women because they're designed for men. She's come up with a ketogenic eating plan to help women lose weight and feel better, all while keeping their hormones in balance. Sounds promising -- and includes lots of great recipes, too!

These next two suggestions are from my mom:
THE OVERSTORY by Richard Powers
Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction, this novel presents nine separate life stories in which trees of varying species play major roles in the life paths of the protagonists and bring them together to address the destruction of forests. An elegant narrative, with nods to nature and human struggle, pulls you through this highly acclaimed book.

KEEPER OF LOST THINGS by Ruth Hogan
A heartwarming novel about the discovery, joy, and intrigue of the seemingly insignificant things that people hold dear. The book explores how what is lost can have great meaning when found and returned to those who love them.
