Haverhill's St. Barth's Recap

Haverhill's St. Barth's Recap

Last week, I jetted off to St. Barth's with my husband, parents, brother and sister-n-law.  The Leach family has been going to St. Barth's for the past 20 years and my parents rent a beautiful home overlooking the port of Gustavia.  We did a lot of beach hopping, shopping, hiking and eating at some of our favorite restaurants.  I thought I'd share my experiences and engage your imagination to warm you up during the chilly winter!

BEACHES

St. Barths has some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean.  Gouverneur is remote, picturesque and never too crowded.  It has the most gorgeous turquoise water and the waves aren't too big, so it's great for swimming.  It's also a great spot to take kids as you can find shade with an area of pretty trees and foliage.

Colombier Beach is my second favorite. You can only get here by boat or by hike. If you choose the latter option, wear comfortable sneakers as it can be bumpy and steep. I opted for the 30-minute hike along the rocky coast. We saw iguanas, goats, pretty foliage and the most breathtaking views.  Once you hike down it opens up to a private beach shared with a large compound formerly owned by the Rockefellers. Bring a picnic and plan to spend the day there.

EAT

St. Barth's hands down has some of the best food in the Caribbean. Everything is fresh and so tasty with most items coming from France. I love Bonito for a special dinner and night out. They have great seafood dishes and raw fish such as the Smoked Himachi with Caviar and Apple.  They also have gorgeous views of Gustavia harbor, a fun ambiance and delicious cocktails.  Request a special table on the terrace.

Pearl Beach is another great one right on the beach. It has fun music and yummy food.  I recommend taking a dip in the ocean between courses (wear that bathing suit) or watch the windsurfers go by with a glass of rosé.
For lunch, head to Shellona, a lively restaurant on Shell Beach where you can sit al fresco and dine on delicious Greek cuisine.

SHOPPING

I make an annual stop to see Anna at Laurent Effel and stock up on the most comfortable leather driving shoes made in Italy. I either get the loafer style or a ballet flat style driving shoe. They are so versatile and beautifully made.
I head to super chic home store Yume for beautiful earthy, modern goods.
Terra, which also has a shop in Newport, RI has eclectic, boho chic novelty items like beaded silk tunics or beach bags.

Remember to do something for yourself.  Whether you travel overseas or take 30 minutes to practice something you enjoy, every little bit counts.

Be well!
