Unique Push Present Ideas for New Moms
Moms have spoken and personalized jewelry tops their list for “push presents” or gifts to celebrate the arrival of a baby in the family. We surveyed 1,000 mothers and expecting moms in the U.S. and they made it clear that push present jewelry tops their wish list. They also let slip that they are not good at letting their partners know.
So, what is a push present? And what are the best push present ideas for a wife and new mom? Our survey digs deep into the data of what moms really want (but aren’t asking for).
What is a Push Present?
A push present is a gift given to a mother by her partner after she has given birth. It celebrates a mother’s literal labor of love in bringing a new life into the family.
Push gift can be different for each mom according to their tastes. If your partner loves jewelry, she might enjoy an engraved MAMA necklace to celebrate her important new role, or a Rosecliff Bar Necklace personalized with baby’s birthstones if she prefers a bit of color in her style, or a delicate 1 Letter & 1 Petite White Topaz Bracelet to showcase baby’s initial and birthstone. If she loves to be pampered, she might enjoy a spa day where she can relax.
Partners have been giving postpartum gifts for moms for decades, though the name “push present” is more recent. Google Trends has been tracking the search term “new mom gifts” since 2004, but the tradition goes back long before that. “Push present” started increasing in popularity in the last decade, partly thanks to celebrity moms sharing their new mom gifts.
In 2022, more than half of the moms we surveyed had heard of push presents, with younger moms much more likely to be familiar with the idea. 70% of moms ages 18-24 have heard of push presents, compared to:
- 63% of moms ages 25-34
- 53% of moms ages 35-44
- 37% of mom ages 45-54
- 36% of moms 54 and older
If you are considering push present ideas for a first-time mom, she’s likely heard of this gift and is perhaps even expecting it.
Most Moms Agree: New Moms Should Be Celebrated with Push Presents
Childbearing is a labor of love. Nine long months of pregnancy followed by labor, birth and the postpartum stage are life changing. No wonder new moms want to celebrate the new arrival with a gift of this special time and their new baby. And they deserve it!
We surveyed 1,000 expecting moms in the U.S. and 74% of moms surveyed, regardless of age, said all new mothers should get push presents. The younger the mother, the more likely she was to agree:
- 82% of 18–24-year-old moms say all new mothers should get push presents.
- 81% of mothers aged 25-34 feel the same.
- 76% of mothers ages 35-44 agreed.
- 61% of mothers over 54 agreed. That figure is still over half.
The arrival of a new baby is celebrated in many baby-focused ways—baby showers, gender reveals, maternity photoshoots, “babymoons” and more. But a push present is a more intimate celebration. It’s a special gift given to show appreciation for everything it took to deliver the child. It’s a present that says, “Thank you for creating new life.”
What New Moms Want, but Won't Ask For
Despite saying all new moms should be celebrated with a push present, 80% of moms we surveyed have never asked their partners for this gift. And of the moms who said they received push presents, 59% had not asked for one.
Why are they being so shy about asking? There are many possible reasons why moms aren’t dropping a hint. Some might be thinking about the cost of a baby and feeling that all gifts should be for the baby. Some might not feel comfortable directly asking for gifts. Or maybe they don’t ask simply because they assume their partner already knows to get them something.
What gift should you get for the new mom in your life when she won’t tell you what she wants?
Most Wanted Push Presents
Luckily, Haverhill made sure to ask mothers which presents they’d like most. We grouped potential new mom gifts into several categories and then asked which one represented the ideal push present if money were not a factor. Our survey choices included:
- Jewelry
- A spa day
- Clothing, shoes, or bags
- Skincare and cosmetics
- Electronics
- Home decorations and furniture
- Home goods, like a coffee maker or new bedding
- Other, like postpartum help, a nanny, money, or a housekeeper
It’s no surprise to us that jewelry is the top choice among push present gifts. Jewelry is extremely personal and an affirmation of what we value most. Clothes let new moms revisit their style options postpartum. What mother doesn’t want the chance to feel beautiful with a new outfit, designer bag, or shoes?
What all the most wanted push presents have in common is that the gift recognizes moms and this life-changing event. Jewelry is especially personal and offers an added layer of romance. Perhaps that’s why it took the top spot.
Let your partner know that you love them and everything they do and that they are the sparkle in your life that makes it worthwhile.
Remember, the majority of new moms won’t be asking for this present so your show of affection - whether it is a statement piece such as a Warren Horizontal Birthstone Ring with Accent Stones, or a bit more understated elegance like a Heart Disc & Petite 1 Birthstone Necklace - your gesture will mean the world to her.

Most Meaningful Push Presents

They bring a connection to the people and events that mean the most to you. The physical act of touching the birthstones in a necklace or bracelet or ring reminds you of your loved ones and the special place your family has in your heart.

FAQ
A push present is a thoughtful gift given to a mother by her partner or loved ones to mark the occasion of giving birth to her child. It's a way to celebrate the new arrival and recognize the mother's effort and journey through pregnancy and childbirth.
The perfect push present can vary greatly depending on personal taste. Jewelry is a popular choice because it can be personalized and cherished as a keepsake. Consider a personalized necklace that incorporates the new baby's birthstone, a zodiac pendant, or a personalized birthstone and letter bracelet to keep her baby close to her at all times.
Good push presents are those that hold sentimental value and can be treasured for years to come. Personalized jewelry, such as a personalized necklace with the baby’s birthstone or a bracelet with an engraved initial, makes for a meaningful and heartfelt gift.
The value of a push present is less about the price and more about the significance it holds. It's not necessary to spend a set amount; it's the thought and personalization that count most. Choose a gift that fits your budget and carries a personal touch.
A push present is typically given after the baby is born, often in the hospital or when the new mother is back at home. However, the timing can be flexible—some prefer to give it just before birth or at a special moment during the early stages of the baby's life.
