Love for the "Upper Valley"

Our home base is in a lovely seaside town in Rhode Island but when we like to have a weekend getaway, we almost always head north to the "Upper Valley", a picturesque region on the Vermont and New Hampshire sides of the Connecticut River near Dartmouth College.  My family has been flocking to this area for rest, relaxation and celebrations since the 1920s. In fact, my family is so fond of this locale, that they named me after Haverhill, New Hampshire, which my ancestors founded in 1763. Our extended family have houses that are lined up beside each other set against a gorgeous Vermont lake that provides year round activities and beauty.  In the summer, we mostly spend our time kayaking, waterskiing, golfing, walking around the lake, exploring nearby towns and eating al fresco while watching the sunset.

If you find yourself looking for a peaceful New England escape, I highly recommend a trip to the Upper Valley!  Here are some of my favorite spots for you to discover:
Hanover Inn Hanover, NH
The stylish Hanover Inn is located right in the middle of Hanover, NH and is overlooking the Dartmouth College Green.  The Inn houses my favorite restaurant in the Upper Valley, Pine. I especially love their Hamachi Crudo and my husband, Andrej's favorite is the Hanover Inn Burger.
Come see live demonstrations by glass blowers, creating the beautiful pieces of the Simon Pearce brand, set against views of a waterfall and a covered bridge in historic, Quechee, Vermont. Shop the store for glassware, pottery and other elegant gifts and for a taste of fresh, local cuisine, enjoy a meal at their restaurant
The Hood Museum Hanover, NH
After a three year extensive restoration, Dartmouth College's Hood Museum is now reopened to the public. This art museum has a vast array of exhibits from all over the globe and through the ages. I can't wait to see how the renovations have turned out!
The Orozco Mural Hanover, NH
A stop in Hanover would not be complete without taking some time to view the stunning fresco mural, The Epic of American Civilization (1932-34) painted by José Clemente Orozco In Dartmouth’s towering Baker Library.
Whether you are an at-home baker, a professional or looking for a fun activity for your children, King Arthur baking classes are an excellent way to hone your craft in a beautiful setting. Examples of classes are Bite into Biscotti, Savory French Tarts, Beauty and the Baguette and Baklava and Beyond.
Farm-Way Bradford, VT
Our go-to shop for all things outdoors- sort of a feed store gone chic. My favorite finds from Farm-Way include a Barbour coat, my Hydro Flask, a kayak, and Minnetonka Moccasins for the whole family.

Freshly picked seasonal fruits and vegetables, artisanal meats and cheeses, a large assortment of crafts made by local artists, as well as flower bouquets and potted plants, while enjoying the sounds of great local musicians.
